Estar Subjunctive Conjugation

Estar in the Subjunctive, as with the the indicative, is extremely irregular in all tenses. The subjunctive as outlined in previous posts is used a lot more in Spanish than it is in English where it is rarely put to use. All tenses in the subjunctive estar are outlined below.

Estar in the Subjunctive

Present Tense Subjunctive

  • (yo)                                   esté
  • (tú)                                    esté
  • (él/ella/usted)             esté
  • (nosotros/as)               estemos
  • (vosotros/as)               estéis
  • (ellos/ellas/ustedes) estén

Imperfect Tense Subjunctive

  • (yo)                                   estuviera or estuviese
  • (tú)                                    estuvieras or estuvieses
  • (él/ella/usted)             estuviera or estuviese
  • (nosotros/as)               estuviéramos or estuviésemos
  • (vosotros/as)               estuvierais or estuvieseis
  • (ellos/ellas/ustedes) estuvieran or estuviesen

Future Tense Subjunctive

  • (yo)                                   estuviere
  • (tú)                                    estuvieres
  • (él/ella/usted)             estuviere
  • (nosotros/as)               estuviéremos
  • (vosotros/as)               estuviereis
  • (ellos/ellas/ustedes) estuvieren
