Hacer Imperfect Tense: How to Conjugate Hacer in the Imperfect

Click Here to learn how to conjugate irregular Spanish verbs quickly and with ease

Mastering the spanish verb hacer imperfect tense is relatively simple. Hacer in the imperfect is unlike the present, preterite, future, conditional and the subjunctive tenses in that it follows the regular formation for -er verbs and the conjugation can be found below, but before you check out the conjugation first consider reading this verb training software review. It was, and still is, an invaluable aid to me when I was struggling to learn Spanish verbs, helping me to master Spanish verbs much more quickly than I was doing so previously, and it was so successful in helping me that I now run my own website/blog which is completely dedicated to Spanish verbs!

The Imperfect Form of Hacer

The imperfect is formed by taking the stem of the verb, in this case hac- and adding the regular endings for imperfect -er verbs which are highlighted in red.

Singular
yo hacía I was doing/making
hacías You were doing/making
él, ella, usted hacía He/She was, and You were, doing/making
Plural
nosotros/as hacíamos We were doing/making
vosotros/as hacíais You were doing/making
ellos, ellas, ustedes hacían They/You were doing/making

You will notice that the 1st and 3rd person singular (yo and él, ella, usted) are the same. Generally the context in which they are used will indicate who is performing the action but if that is not the case then the prefix should always be used to clarify.

Should you require it here is an earlier post on How to Conjugate Hacer in the Preterite Tense
